      Keiger, Marjorie

Marjorie was valedictorian at Old Town High School, and a graduate of Hollins College, & UNC Chapel Hill (1941); & MA from Eastman School of Music (Rochester, NY) in 1942. She taught at Meredith College in Raleigh during 1943-44, and taught piano in Winston-Salem after 1944. She was the first piano soloist to play with the Winston-Salem Civic Orchestra after its formation in 1947. She last played with the Winston-Salem Symphony during its 25th Anniversary in 1972.

"Margie" was active in music productions in Winston-Salem, directing choruses and playing the piano. She was also active in the American Association of University Women (president of Winston-Salem Chapter), the League of Women Voters, & the Unitarian Universalist Church.

Marjorie was director of the Alltel-Carolina TGelephone Company from 1962-1988. Her first husband, Herman Halpern operated an advertising agency in Winston-Salem. After Herman died, she married Joseph Felmet, a copy editor for the "Winston-Salem Journal"

Marjorie became ill during a vacation trip to Europe during September 1990 and was hospitalized in Muttenz, so was unable to attend the family reunion as she and Joseph had planned.

Her mother, Mrs Mamie Spainhour Keiger, age 96 in 1993, was among her survivors.
